Notepad++ v8.6: 20th-Year Anniversary
2023-11-23 Today marks the 20th anniversary of Notepad++ (November 23, 2003), when it launched its first version (v1.0) on SourceForge: From v1.0 to the current v8.6, there have been 238 official releases (excluding some releases that were withdrawn due to critical bugs). I still recall that between the v1.x and the v2.0, I repeatedly signed up on various websites, so that I could spam the forums with “Notepad++ is awesome!

Notepad++ v8.5.8 release
2023-10-17 This release of Notepad++ has fixed two old saving issues and has made the application restorable after restarting Windows 10 / 11 due to OS update. Additionally, there are several other fixes and enhancements included in this release. Notepad++ v8.5.3 release
2023-05-15 Fix a critical issue of session file data loss. Fix bugs & enhance Explorer context menu “Edit with Notepad++”. Also a lot of GUI enhancements are added in 8.5.3 release. Note that your Macro and Run commands saved in Notepad++ v.8.5.2 (or older) may not be compatible with the current version of Notepad++. Please test those commands and, if needed, re-edit them. Alternatively, you can downgrade to Notepad++ v8.

2023-03-24 Notepad++ v8.5.1 uses new modern shell “Edit with Notepad++” of Windows 11 instead of hijacking “Pin to Quick access” installed in v8.5. The hack of “Pin to Quick access” will be cleaned up during the installation. 2 programming languages (MS Transact-SQL & GDScript) are supported in v8.5.1 release.
